Used Drive In Racks

Used drive in pallet rack is a high-density storage system, allowing storage of more pallets in less space. Storing more products in less space means fewer aisles, therefore, saving and maximizing floor space. Lanes are deeper than standard pallet rack so they hold more pallets which equate to saving floor space. Lanes are stacked 2-10 pallets deep. Lanes are loaded and unloaded with a forklift. The forklift enters and exits the aisle the same way thru the front. Rails run the length of the rack to provide evenly placed pallets. Rails are supported by arms/saddles which are connected to the frames/uprights. Each rail holds one pallet in front of the other until lane is completely loaded front to back. The depth of the drive-in rack is the available floor space. The height is as high as the ceiling. Drive in rack utilizes the LIFO (last in, first out) method of inventory control and is ideal for cooler and freezer applications and warehouses that store large amounts of similar products.

There are two types of drive in pallet rack; cold rolled and structural. Structural drive-in pallet racks are made from hot steel. The hot steel is rolled to form I-beams and C channels. Structural steel rack is more expensive than cold rolled but can handle forklift abuse. Frames can usually be repaired instead of replaced. Structural drive in rack holds more weight than cold rolled.

Cold rolled drive in rack begins as a piece of flat steel. It is processed through a machine that forms the steel into the desired form. This type of rack uses less steel which reduces the cost. Lightweight and easy installation makes this an ideal type of rack for applications that need to stack to the ceiling. Cold rolled rack is easily damaged when hit, therefore, frame protectors are recommended.

Used drive-through pallet rack is also available. This type of rack is set up the same way as drive in racking, but the forklift operator can enter and exit from both sides.

Used drive-in rack manufacturers include Frazier, Interlake, Steel King and Unarco. American Surplus stocks these brands along with Ridg-u-Rak and Mecalux. Design and installation of used drive in pallet rack, by trained professionals, is available nationwide.

Used drive in pallet racking allows forklifts and other lift equipment to drive directly into the rack’s rows to place pallets. The only difference between drive in and drive through pallet rack is drive through has openings on both ends, allowing for lift equipment to drive all the way through the racking system, while drive in racking only has an opening on one side, so forklifts must back out of the row.

The advantage of on-side access over drive through racking is that there are less rows, because only one sided of the drive in rack has to have an opening. Because of this, two drive-in systems can be installed back to back, using just half the amount of rows as a drive through rack.
