About Turret Trucks

Turret Trucks are great for maneuvering tight spaces within your material handling facility. They are very compact and narrow, with a swing reach mast that can turn the forks sideways to retrieve a load. When the forks are turned up to a 180 degree angle, they are able to extend forward into your storage rack to retrieve or store loads. Because the forks on turret trucks can rotate a full 180 degrees, they can pick from either side of an aisle without turning the forklift around.

There are two common styles of swing reach forklifts: operator up and operator down. Operator up turret trucks feature a driver’s cab that lifts with the load, which allows for easier order selection. Operator down turret trucks are the same design, except the operator stays on the ground when the forks are raised to pick or stock products.

American Surplus has a large inventory of used forklifts in our facility, and we are constantly getting more forklifts. If you do not see what you are looking for, give us a call. Our team of sales people would be more than happy to assist you; they have more than 50 years combined experience in providing material handling solutions.

Advantages of Turret Trucks

Turret trucks, also known as turret stock pickers or turret forklifts, are specialized material handling equipment commonly used in high-density storage environments. Here are some advantages of turret trucks:

  • Vertical Storage: Turret trucks are designed to operate in very narrow aisles and can reach high vertical heights. They can access and retrieve products from tall racking systems, maximizing the use of vertical storage space in the warehouse. This capability significantly increases storage density and allows for more efficient utilization of available warehouse floor space.
  • Boosted Productivity: Turret trucks enable fast and efficient order picking and replenishment operations. With their ability to reach high levels and swivel the load horizontally, turret trucks can quickly position themselves in front of the desired storage location, reducing travel time and optimizing picking speeds. This results in increased productivity and throughput.
  • Improved Maneuverability: Turret trucks are highly maneuverable, capable of rotating the load 180 degrees within the aisle. This feature allows them to work in narrow aisles while facing both directions, eliminating the need for turning around. The ability to maneuver easily and accurately contributes to smoother and more efficient material handling operations.
  • Selective Picking: Turret trucks enable selective picking of individual items from racks or shelves. With their ability to position the load precisely and swivel it horizontally, operators can retrieve specific products without the need to move adjacent pallets or items. This selective picking capability increases order accuracy and reduces the risk of errors.
  • Warehouse Worker Safety and Comfort: Turret trucks are designed with operator safety and comfort in mind. They often feature ergonomic operator compartments with adjustable seating, intuitive controls, and excellent visibility. Safety features such as operator presence sensors, anti-slip surfaces, and advanced stability systems ensure a safe working environment for the operators.
  • Less Product Damage: The precise and controlled movements of turret trucks minimize the risk of product damage during handling. The ability to reach high levels without excessive tilting or swaying ensures the safe retrieval and placement of items, reducing the chances of accidents or mishandling.
  • Versatility: Turret trucks can be equipped with various attachments and accessories to handle different load types and sizes. They can handle palletized goods, long loads, and even specialized materials with appropriate attachments, making them versatile for a wide range of applications across different industries.
  • Increased Inventory Accuracy: Turret trucks contribute to improved inventory accuracy. With their precise positioning capabilities, they facilitate accurate placement of items in designated storage locations, reducing the risk of misplacements or incorrect inventory counts. This leads to better inventory control and more accurate stock management.
  • Space Optimization: By operating in very narrow aisles, turret trucks help optimize the use of available warehouse space. They require narrower aisles compared to traditional forklifts, allowing for more racking systems or storage units to be installed within the same warehouse footprint. This space optimization can lead to cost savings by maximizing storage capacity and potentially reducing the need for additional warehouse expansions.

Turret Trucks Applications

Turret trucks, also known as turret stock pickers or turret forklifts, are versatile material handling equipment designed for high-density storage environments. They find applications in various industries and warehouse operations. Here are some common applications for turret trucks:

  • Warehousing and Distribution Centers: Turret trucks are extensively used in large-scale warehousing and distribution centers. They facilitate efficient order picking, replenishment, and put-away operations in high-density storage systems. Turret trucks can access and retrieve items from tall racking systems, making them ideal for managing large inventories and optimizing storage space.
  • E-commerce Fulfillment Centers: With the growth of e-commerce, turret trucks have become essential in e-commerce fulfillment centers. They enable fast and accurate order picking, allowing operators to retrieve individual items from shelves or racks quickly. The high maneuverability and vertical reach capabilities of turret trucks contribute to efficient fulfillment processes.
  • Retail and Wholesale Stores: Retail and wholesale stores with multi-level storage systems benefit from turret trucks. These trucks allow operators to efficiently handle inventory and restock shelves. Turret trucks can access items stored at various heights, ensuring quick and accurate replenishment, especially in narrow or confined spaces.
  • Manufacturing Facilities: Turret trucks play a vital role in manufacturing operations where space optimization and efficient material handling are crucial. They support the movement of raw materials, components, and finished goods within manufacturing facilities. Turret trucks assist in just-in-time inventory management and contribute to streamlined production processes.
  • Temperature-Controlled Environments: Turret trucks are commonly used in cold storage warehouses or temperature-controlled environments. They can efficiently navigate narrow aisles and retrieve items stored at various temperature zones. The ability to work in low-temperature conditions makes turret trucks suitable for handling perishable goods or pharmaceuticals in these specialized environments.
  • Automotive Industry: Turret trucks are employed in automotive manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and distribution centers. They support the handling and storage of automotive components, allowing efficient picking and replenishment operations. Turret trucks contribute to the streamlined flow of materials and aid in effective inventory management.
  • Electronics and Technology: Turret trucks are utilized in the electronics and technology industry, where precise and efficient material handling is crucial. They assist in retrieving delicate and valuable electronic components, ensuring safe and accurate order fulfillment. Turret trucks enable the optimization of storage space for various electronic products.
  • Aerospace Industry: Turret trucks find applications in aerospace manufacturing and maintenance facilities. They facilitate the movement of aircraft components, tools, and equipment within limited spaces. Turret trucks contribute to efficient inventory management and support the timely completion of aerospace projects.
  • Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare: Turret trucks are commonly used in pharmaceutical warehouses, hospitals, and healthcare facilities. They assist in the safe and efficient handling of medical supplies, drugs, and equipment. Turret trucks contribute to accurate inventory management and ensure timely access to critical healthcare items.
