Characteristics of Used Industrial Steel Shelving

• Shelves are general to high capacity storage.
• Used bays of industrial shelving come in two styles; open shelving and enclosed steel shelving units.
• All used shelving has fully adjustable posts, typically 1”-1.5” apart. Made of heavy gauge angle or offset shelving posts. Box shelving posts are the best for full width usage. These shelving posts can be spliced on top of each other for mezzanine applications.
• All used industrial shelves ASI sells use 20 or 18 gauge shelves only. Yes . . other companies advertise heavy duty shelving but look closely at the shelf gauge and capacity. Sometimes new shelving isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Remember when buying steel shelving it’s all about the weight of the steel. You’re paying by the pound so why buy new when heavier used steel shelves are a better overall value.
• Applications of Used Warehouse Shelving:
  
• General Warehouse – storage of small parts
• Shelving for tool rooms & maintenance shops - used to store hardware and electrical equipment.
• Store Room – storage of retail items or back up stock, used in all sorts of back room applications. You may want to also look at boltless shelving.
• Multi-Level Shelving Mezzanine Systems – used in auto parts stores, Napa, Auto-Stores, use these mezzanine systems in all their back rooms to increase storage capacity.
• Archive Storage – used record storage shelving is a main source of record storage applications. Generally a used 30”x42” shelf is the best size to use. Archive storage is cheap & easy to assemble. Shelving systems of higher capacity are called racking systems.

Shelving Capacity Ranges:
ASI only sells 18 gauge or 20 gauge industrial shelving. Used shelving of lighter capacities is not recommended. For example, our 24”x48” industrial warehouse shelves weigh 19# each. Now that’s heavy!
General capacity shelves are 250# - 450#
Heavy duty shelving is more like 500-1200 lb/per shelf

Shelving posts have direct vertical load capacities in approx 11,000#, great for shelving mezzanines.
