Used Pallet Rack Systems

Used pallet rack is and has been manufactured by dozens of manufacturers over the years. Basically the design hasn’t varied significantly over the years. A bay of used pallet rack consists of a starter frame varying in size from as short as 3-4’ in height to over 55’ high. The standard used frame width is 42” but can be provided, as required, from 20” to 60”. Various types and size beams are used to connect to its mating frame. Two frames with connecting beams make up a bay of pallet rack. The beam is usually (1) a metal cold rolled box or (2) step design or (3) a metal structural c-channel. Cold rolled beams have connectors on each end of the beam with a series of projections that fit into the type of pattern for a particular manufacturer. Structural used pallet rack designs are the same except the pallet rack beam connectors are attached to the frame with 2 or more nuts and bolts. Refer to the ASI identification chart to assist you in choosing a manufacturer. There are certain styles and manufactures that may have pallet rack features that could benefit you in your specific application. It would be wise to consider these benefits prior to making your purchase. From this basic design, other racking components can be added or changed to achieve the other types of racking systems:

1-Used Drive–In Rack
2-Used Drive-Thru Rack
3-Used Pushback Rack
4-Used Carpet Rack
5-Used Reel Rack
6- Used Bulk Rack
7- Used Flow rack
8- Other customized racking for your particular application.

American Surplus has been advising customers over the years and is ready to provide their expertise in the form of no-charge-consultations relative to pointing out the benefits of each manufacturer and the deposition of your current used pallet rack system, if required. ASI can offer you a multitude of choices of used and new racking in stock and ready to ship at our daily low price usually 40-60% off retail new.

ASI is anxious to serve you. Our prices are very aggressive and can be adjusted to meet your budget. And, of course volume pricing is available. Used racking is available in a standard “used” condition (S grade) or in a higher grade at S plus or a lower grade S minus. Regardless of condition, pallet rack sold at American Surplus Inc will meet all the functional standards of new racking except surface condition of (S Minus grade) that governs only the surface paint, usually faded with minor dirt, scrapes, stickers and some minor rust. Obviously each grade of rack and beam is priced accordingly. It’s your choice. Save the money by purchasing the lower grade or choose the higher grade and still save. Both choices will give you the functioning used pallet rack needed to meet your needs at an affordable price.

Our services include the full range of consultation, site visits, viewing and in house demonstrations of various used rack manufacturers. See the differently graded pallet rack frames and beams. You make the “smart” choice. You see the product. ASI is also setup with a studio for pictures and videos if a visit is not possible. Our services include, if required, a surplus asset removal program along with the use of our freight carrier low rates. We can also provide the necessary expertise to dismantle any of your surplus systems using our installation crews. ASI can also provide your in-house dismantling crew with necessary packaging instructions and drawings of each racking system. Our technicians have the experience based on dealing with thousands of our current customers from thousand bay distribution centers to a small company requiring only single bay of used pallet rack . We have seen it all and can provide you with that expertise to save you money and time. Try it – it’s free. In addition, you can take advantage of our virtual tour of American Surplus via our website containing pictures, videos of our buildings, shops and inventory.

ASI will also provide you with a quote for new pallet rack that will allow you to choose the system that will get the job done. Whatever is needed will be done to assure you that you’re getting the right used pallet racking system at the right price for your specific needs.

The following is a brief summary of various types of racking systems available at ASI on a daily basis:

Used Selective Rack: Single deep pallet rack is the most popular system being used today. It provides the lowest density of all racking systems. Loads are stored 1 deep for easy loading and picking. www.americansurplus.com/used-pallet-rack.html

Used Drive-In rack: system involves lift trucks driving into the storage bay and placing the load in the next available position and then backing out. Drive-In rack can be configured to store loads three, four or more deep into the system. A Drive-in system that stores pallets four high and five deep for example, can hold 20 pallets in each bay. As such, Used drive-in rack systems limit access to products stored in the first loaded storage positions. Drive-In racking systems are best suited for warehouses storing large quantities of the same product. www.americansurplus.com/used-drive-in-rack.html

Used Drive through rack: systems are similar in design to a drive-in system except the forklift can load both in the front and rear of the system. This type of racking system requires an aisle on both sides increasing the required square footage.  The advantage is this system allows for (FIFO) first in- first out inventory rotation. www.americansurplus.com/used-drive-thru-rack.html

Used Push Back Rack: system evolved from the selective design with frames and beams supporting the pallet load. In this case, several rows of frames and beams are positioned together allowing nested carts that move down rails to the removal point via gravity as the product load in position 1 is removed by a forklift. Used push back racking usually is 2- 5 pallets deep. The first pallet is loaded on the system’s front top tray. When the next pallet is delivered to that lane, the previously loaded pallet #1 is pushed back into the 2nd position allowing this pallet to be loaded onto the next tray in position #1. This process continues until all positions are filled. The next level is then filled. www.americansurplus.com/used-pushback-rack.html

Used push-back rack requires less space than flow rack because the rear access is not required. The system manages inventory on a Last –First-Out basis.

Carpet or Roll Rack: systems have evolved from the selective design with racking bays being positioned back to back against one another. The rows are added to gain the necessary width of the system that allows rolls to be positioned on a level without projecting on either side of the system. Forklifts with booms then can insert the boom into the roll to load or remove from the system. Used decking is added to allow the carpets to be slid into position. www.americansurplus.com/used-carpet-rack.html

Used Reel Rack: system is a modified selective rack design with specially designed from clips and spacing to allow storing various size reels. The required capacity will determine the type of used pallet rack frames and beams required. www.americansusrplus.com/used-reel-rack.html

Used Flow Rack: systems are another variation of the selective rack system. Frames and beams are positioned to provide the necessary gravity motion to loaded pallets so as the front pallet is removed the pallets lined up to the rear are allowed to roll into the next position. Used spantrack or conveyor rollers are mounted on the beams and positioned slightly higher than the matching beams to the front of the system. Speed reduction rollers can be used to control the speed of the pallets moving to the front of the system. www.americansurplus.com/used-flow-rack.html

Used Bulk Rack: systems are designed to address the light duty storage for products that can be hand loaded into storage. This design is a used selective pallet rack except with lower capacities. Usually customers will add used wire decking or used particle board providing a continuous surface so the all size cartons and inventory pieces can be stored.

Each system brings to the customer a range of added benefits. The problem is to choose the right system that takes into consideration the added benefits relative to the purchase and maintenance costs.
