Used Mezzanines

Used mezzanines are available in five styles of construction:

Used Cold Rolled Low Profile mezzanines aremanufactured from sheet metal that is lighter than structural steel. Used cold rolled steel also has a smooth finish so the mezzanine can be used in a display area. This type of mezzanine is very limited in column spacing, usually 10-15’ and usually not more than 20’. Cold rolled steel mezzanines can meet most capacity load requirements.

Used Hot Rolled Structural Wide Span mezzanines are manufactured with I-beams to maximize capacity and minimize deck profile will provide a higher clear height, but is much heavier than the other systems resulting in a higher floor load. Used hot rolled mezzanine structures wide span provides the clear space under the mezzanine structure with the fewest columns.

Used I-Beam/bar Joist mezzanines aremanufactured from structural I-beam and bar joists that allow greater column spacing and ease in installing electrical conduit, water pipes, sprinklers and lighting fixtures. Bar joists are open and give an open space identity to the mezzanine. Deck profile is wider reducing the clear height dimension.

Used Rack and Shelf Supported mezzanines are designed using either shelving and/or pallet racking to support the mezzanine structure. Mezzanines are used for pallet rack storage, flow rack and shelving. Pick modules with conveyor lines allow storage and picking of a wide variety of materials and products. Inventory storage structures also can be configured with the inclusion of a mix of shelving and / or pallet or bulk racking.

Each type of construction will be designed to meet the required load but other required factors must be considered in order to provide customers with a used mezzanine that will provide the flexibility to meet all the needs for its intended use. Will it be used for storage, offices, manufacturing, conveyor equipment, racking, and /or shelving etc. Will the system size be increased at a later date? American Surplus is ready to meet these design requirements and able to customize your used mezzanine to fit in any area of your facility.

Glossary of mezzanine parts and terms

Plywood or composite board decking can be tech screwed directly to the framing but will require closely spaced joists.

Composite Wood / metal decking consisting of a sub-deck of corrugated metal tech screwed to the joists with plywood or composite wood tech screwed to the top of the metal corrugated.

Open steel decking (usually 9” wide formed metal sections) is used to provide a sturdy metal deck for general purpose storage needs.

Steel bar grating is an open rectangular steel bar grid system available in large panels usually 36’wide by up to 20’ long x 1” thick. Sizes vary to accommodate a wide range of uses. A rugged choice that offers good resistance to wear while providing up to 80% open area for heat, light, and air circulation.

Height: is determined by the use of the space under the mezzanine. It is the distance from the ground floor to the bottom of the mezzanine structure; either a joist or I-beam.

Load: is determined by the structure used and I-beam or joist size.

Column spacing is determined by the type of structure chosen. ASI can recommend a construction type to suit your needs.

Stairs and Railing should be determined by its use; with conveyor, rack, shelving, offices.

Expansions should be discussed so that the design can be correctly configured.

Gates will allow for movement of product / inventory on and off the mezzanine.
